I grew up on an Iowa farm surrounded by critters, especially horses. As a rodeo queen with my childhood horse, Sundance, I found immense joy. At the University of Iowa, I taught at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, delving into the world's best literature. Later, as a magazine editor and writer, I contributed to publications like the New York Times.
I also taught writing and media at Northwestern and Marquette University. I'm proud of my volunteer work for causes I believe in, supporting veterans, women and children, the environment, animal rescues, refugees, and the Chief Joseph Foundation (CJF). A portion of my debut novel sales goes to CJF.
A few years ago, I started the historical blog, Notes from the Frontier, with over 100,000 readers. Writing a novel was a lifelong dream, and with the support of many, I fulfilled that dream, particularly after a kidney transplant. Thank you to everyone who helped make Blood to Rubies possible.
